Keeping in touch…

I realize I have been out of touch and with regards to my Etsy shop – I continue to take baby steps. Just to share a few updates:

Maddie and Marry is alive and well!
Since my last year, we have registered our domain and now the website is up and running. We have samples of various designs pictured there, but many more shown on our Flickr account. And with regards to my last post, we are now selling designs in the Zazzle marketplace.

We’ve been blessed to work with wonderful clients and complete some really fun projects. It has been a pleasure to design invitations for many weddings, birthdays, holidays and other celebrations. We look forward to the second half of the year and creating beautiful graphics for some fall weddings, a Halloween costume party and birth announcements for new babies.

I hope to have items for sale in our Etsy shop within the month. We will be offering printing services for custom invitations as well as printable/DIY designs. Stay tuned for our exciting offering!

Thank you again for those who have referred us!! Word of mouth has been the best marketing tool for us! We love taking on new clients and even better when they keep coming back.

I’m going to do my best to keep the blog updated with new information.

goodbye 2011– hello 2012!!

It has been quite a year for me! I started blogging after loosing my job and deciding to start my own little business from home. There have been many ups and downs. It feels like there were obstacles around every corner. But it feels good to finally have everything coming together.

I welcome the new year with open arms. Cheers to a happy and healthy 2012! Thanks so much for following my rants and ideas. I really appreciate all the support and encouragement.

Stay tuned for my Etsy shop Grand Opening and lots of blogging. There’s a lot to look forward to…

I look forward to doing business with you–

business card

a small card on which is printed, typically, a person’s name, job title, firm, business address, and telephone number.

17th Century visiting cards and then Social Card Etiquette of the 18th and 19th Centuries.
And then of course the Industrial Revolution and modern trade shaped the practice of presenting your business affiliation and leaving behind a reminder of your meeting.
I won’t bore you with the full history of this amazing little 2×3″ ish cut of paper, but feel free to google it or read about it here.
In college I learned all about the design of business cards in terms of text and graphics, but I also learned about modern business card sharing practices. Across the globe giving and receiving business cards differs. In some places it is so casual and in other locations it is a very formal action. In any case it is amazing how something so small as a little card can impart so much information.
If you are lucky enough to work for yourself or for a company that cares about aesthetics, your business card can inspire, highlight personal style and showcase your talent. I’m hoping that my newly created cards will do just that.
Here are a few snapshots taken with my i-phone. This is to give you a taste. Don’t worry– the next time I see you I’ll be sure to present you with one… maybe more if you would pass them out for me. hehe

I put the Pro in procrastinator— but no longer

Day 2 of following my work at home schedule… it’s going alright. I’m using Jim’s PC laptop to get online stuff done faster. Then I’ll be doing design stuff in my iMac desktop this afternoon.

We talked last night and hopefully within a couple of months I can get a MacBook Pro laptop. I can’t wait until I can design faster and get better organized. Apple offers a great service. When you buy a new computer you can pay them to transfer all data, programs, etc. from the old computer to the new computer. This will be great for me. Then I’m thinking of looking into an online backup system with Comcast so that I don’t need an external hard drive or burning DVD’s all the time.

My business cards should be here today. So excited to see how they turned out! I’ll definitely post pics.

I’m working on a couple of wedding orders currently and Halloween invitations for my favorite client. Let’s call her the glitter lady! All the invitations I’ve ever done for her include glitter. She’s great and gives me a few ideas and let’s me run with the design. Each year we have to top the previous invitation. Getter bigger and better each time. She hosts at least three events each year: Halloween costume party in Philly, winter feast in Maine and then Fourth of July in Maine. For Halloween she gets fully dressed up in disguise and makeup. This year the invitation is slightly based on her Ursula (from the little mermaid) costume. Once the invitations are completed and mailed this weekend… then I’ll post pics.

This weekend is supposed to actually feel like fall– and I cannot wait! It’s been hard to think about and design Halloween invitations when it feels like summer out. I need to get a routine down of looking ahead. Like right now is the time to be thinking of autumn and Thanksgiving invitations and greetings. Then Christmas and Hanukkah are right around the corner.

I have a lot of seasonal designs as well as all other occasions that will be in my etsy shop. So I’m thinking that I should send out a message for my “Grand Opening”. When the time comes I want everyone to know that Maddie and Marry is up and running and taking all kinds of custom orders too.

It feels so good to be getting things done. But I better stop writing and get back to my to-do list… because the list is very long and I don’t want to put things off any longer.

Wish me luck!!!

Back with a Vengeance

I can’t believe I’ve let things get like this. It’s been nice taking time off this summer and vacationing… but it seems like the year has flown by. It’s already September and that means I’ve been unemployed and home for nine months.

I finally finished my business card design and sent them to production. They should be ready soon. I know I keep saying my etsy shop will be up and running soon… however procrastination always takes over. But this time it’s real. I’m going to get back on track. I want to maintain a schedule of working at home and actually accomplish the things I set out to do.

I wrote up a schedule for myself and starting today I’m making myself follow it. Workout√ Shower√ Breakfast√ Emails checked√ blog… in the process… and then on to etsy and design and so much more.

In light of my motivation I thought today I should highlight some inspirational words and pick a cool typographic design. The logophile in me (lover of words) gets so excited perusing etsy shops for wonderful sentiments and great design. So consider this Word Wednesday!

Dear Diary– long time no talk

It’s been awhile since I’ve written anything on here. It feels like when I would write in my diary as a child… and then stop for a time and then start again.

Things have been busy with Easter and different events… but mostly because I’ve been working on invitation orders for some clients and finishing my logo design. Hopefully by the end of this week I’ll have my Etsy site up and running with a few custom designs.

It’s been slow going at first. I could really use a new computer but especially a laptop. Sometimes I can’t stand to work upstairs in our office– alone, away from everything. My procrastination starts to kick in or something else gets in the way.

Spring brought warmer weather, outings and family parties. When it’s nice outside I don’t feel like being cooped up. And now our calendar is filling up. It seems like there is something every weekend.

Hopefully now that I’m done with weddings to attend and Easter planning, I’ll be able to get back on track.

Wish me luck and know that I’ll be posting more often.
